(1822-1901) Уиппл, Генри БенджаминРелигиозный деятель. Защитник прав индейцев. Был возведен в сан священника протестантской епископальной церкви [ Protestant Episcopal Church] в 1850. В 1859 стал епископом Миннесотской епархии. Выступал против коррупции в Бюро по делам индейцев [ Bureau of Indian Affairs] и произвола чиновников федеральных властей в резервациях, безуспешно предупреждал о грядущих восстаниях индейцев; в 1868 выступил со специальным докладом в федеральной Комиссии по делам индейцев [U.S. Indian Commission] о положении последних в резервациях, но добился лишь незначительных уступок им. Позднее совершал поездки по стране и за рубежом, собирая средства на помощь индейскому населению.
